Hand in Hand: Who Won and Who’s Packing Up Their Brushes

Congratulations to Valerie Ducharme for winning this challenge! Valerie’s abstract and beautifully painted piano design was composed with perfect harmony.

Head judge Jan Arnold said, “Love these nails! Great painting skills and storytelling. Excellent tips in the demo. Tidy up in video for higher scores in professionalism.”

LeChat said, “I love that you painted the different angles of the piano. I would have liked to hear more about the decision to paint the gears and the colorful geometric shapes, but besides that, well done!”

NAILS assistant editor Katherine Fleming said, “I think the shading on this design is really impressive. It looks like a painting with the highlights and dark backgrounds. I also really liked her technique tips in the video.”

The nail tech who is packing up her paintbrushes this week is… Katie Barnes. Katie is so accomplished in the nail world and the judges know she will continue to be a force for education and artistry in the industry.

This won’t be the last you hear from Katie. She will move on to CND’s Last Chance Design Lab where she’ll have one last chance to stay in the competition. Check back Friday to see who will move on in our Last Chance battle — Katie or Liza.
