After soaking off old acrylic, can a client, at the same visit, get tips and overlays? Or should we wait until the next visit when moisture in the nail isn’t a problem?
I see no problem applying a new set of nails right after removal of the old set in acetone. If the natural nail bed seems a little thin or weak it is possible to apply a single-layer silk wrap over the natural nail prior to applying the tip, and then proceed with the steps of normal application. The silk wrap gives the tip strength while preventing further damage to the natural nail bed. This technique can be used with Backscratchers nail enhancement systems, but I can’t say whether it works with all systems.— Gail Crawford is national education manager for Backscratchers Salon Systems (Elk Grove, Calif.).
