How do I handle using a UV gel with a client’s natural nails and polish? What if the client already has gel on her nails?
Using gel as an overlay for natural nails is becoming quite popular. Many clients are trying to avoid the artificial look from acrylic nails. I would recommend removing a majority of the old gel, preferably removing as much as possible. This way your overlay will be fresh. One approach is to perform a manicure, remove as much old gel as possible, and overlay the natural nail with a fresh gel application. After you finish the overlay and the gel has cured, you can apply polish to the nails.
Tell your client if she decides to change the polish between fill appointments, she will be able to remove the polish color (using non-acetone remover) without harming your gel overlay. — Brooks Barrick is an instructor at Principals of Success Beauty School in Hixson, Texas.
