I own a salon that is part booth rental and part commissioned employees. There has been some question regarding the walk-in process. What, if any, are my obligations to my booth renters when it comes to walk-ins?
An owner has no legal obligation to provide new non-request clients — whether walk-ins or phone inquiries — to a booth renter. However, a smart owner will explicitly address this in the business lease she holds with her booth renters. Basically, the lease should provide for the owner to receive a marketing fee for each new client she refers, if the booth renter wants new clients.
