Cleaning Dried Acrylic Off Brush

September 16, 2011 | Bookmark +

I need advice on how to get dried acrylic off my nail brush. I did my first set of fills today but now I am wondering how to clean my brush. My friend said soak it in acetone and then wash it really well. Could this affect my brush or is it OK to clean it?

Answer

The best way to clean an acrylic brush is using a brush cleaner specifically made for it. There are some manufacturers who make really good ones, and that is what I use. Acrylic brushes are made of sable so you need to make sure you don’t contaminate the brush. Monomer can work well between services, but brush cleaner does the best job.

Some acetone has small traces of oil that can contaminate the brush. Also make sure to use only one brush for a product line; don’t use it for two different acrylic products. This goes for odorless as well. Pulling on the bristles will also damage the brush and the shape, so make sure you don’t pull them when cleaning. If there is already dried acrylic in the brush, it is best to purchase a new one.

How can I prevent lifting when my client's hands are constantly in water?

I have a client who is in the medical field so her hands are constantly in water. She has me keep the length of her acrylic nails short. No matter what I do, she always has at least one nail that comes off, and she always has lifting and gets water under the acrylic. I prep the nails correctly, I have a cuticle bit to clean the cuticle area, and I wipe the nail with alcohol, dehydrate the nail, and prime the nail. What should I do?
