Nail art requests are not slowing down, and there’s another look you may need to develop for your arsenal: galaxy nail art. Pinterest predicts that landscape-inspired designs, like galaxy nail art, will be in demand in 2022. And while galaxy nails aren’t new, the products used to achieve the look today are.

Nail artist Katie Dutra (@nailsbykatiedutra) sees this trend’s popularity, and cites the versatility as its strong suit.

“You can create unique, one-of-kind, galaxy designs and no two nails will ever be the same,” she says. “Whether you prefer a darker color palette, or a softer one, galaxy designs can really pop and be a statement piece all on their own.”

If your clients start requesting these cosmic designs, do you know how to create one?

Products to Create Galaxy Nail Art

First, you need to gather the right products. There are several ways of creating galaxy nail art, but newer products on the market like blooming gel and magnetic cat eye gel will allow you to create amazing effects.

Dutra’s favorite product for galaxy designs is blooming gel because it will allow your colors to melt and soften.

Her biggest trick? “Add iridescent flakes,” she says. “This makes for the perfect pop so your galaxy nails stand out.”

Melissa Gratton (@meli_cured), nail artist and educator, opts for diamond gel and magnetic cat eye gel to create a really unique galaxy nail art design in no time.

“I love encapsulated nails so I would use encapsulated as a base, then layer with gel for the designs,” she says. “This gives it a really multidimensional look.”

How to Create Galaxy Nail Art

Once you have your products, it’s time to start painting.

Dutra has an in-depth galaxy nail tutorial posted on her YouTube page that’s received great feedback from other professionals.

Overall, Dutra says her biggest piece of advice is just to have fun with galaxy nail art.

“It is one of those designs where you can just let your creativity flow and not worry about being overly perfect,” says Dutra.
