Weeks 16-17: Preparing for the Finish Line!

Week 16:

This week four more students arrived and two of my love bugs graduated. I’m next! I say this a lot but it’s always great to get different minds in the group; each new person brings something fresh.

I also created an Instagram account just to see some other nail technicians’ pictures and thoughts; however, I’m in the humble beginning stages when it comes to followers.

I only have three more blogs to write for NAILS, and I realized that I enjoy doing this. Writing these blogs allows me take a step back and reflect on what it is that I have learned and what I want to continue to improve. Therefore, I may have to adopt a little space on the Internet and share my journey!

Week 17:

As usual my only work in school now is preparing for the state board exam. In South Carolina the exam is a two part process. It includes a theory (or computerized test) and a practical exam. The practical exam covers:

  • setting up a work area and prepping the first client.
  • manicure and polish application (red polish).
  • setting up a work area and prepping the second client.
  • nail tip application and blending.
  • sculptured nails (with odorless monomer).
  • a blood exposure procedure.

The examination is $175 and a lot of paperless paperwork! Everything is now uploaded on the computer. I’m sure almost all state board exams are covering the same categories, but keep in mind that I am in S.C., so it may be different in your area.

Until next time,
