Great start to our #nails10kaday challenge this weekend. Now let's see if we can work it at work! Don't forget your comfortable running or walking shoes.

We’re devoting the month of January to jump-start a fitter lifestyle and we’re challenging you to join us! The challenge is to get out of your chair and walk 10k steps a day. The average 150-pound person burns between 80 and 100 calories per mile when walking, and according to www.thewalkingsite.com, the average person’s stride length is approximately 2.5 feet long. That means it takes just over 2,000 steps to walk one mile, and 10,000 steps is close to five miles. Walking 10k steps could help you burn up to an extra 500 calories per day! A sedentary person may only average 1,000 to 3,000 steps a day.

Make sure you use the hashtag #NAILS10kaDay or email (editor@nailsmag.com) us your progress all month long for a chance to get featured in an upcoming issue!
