I'm always excited to see how trends are reflected in nail designs, especially when they feature the stunning sparkle of crystals. Unveiled at L.A.’s London Hotel, Swarovski’s Spring/Summer 2019 collection was inspired by the modern-day value for experiences over things. As well as jewelry and costumes, the event showcased nail art created by celebrity nail artist Eichi Matsunaga, inspired by the collection's themes.
Swarovski's new collection, titled Wanderlust, features the sub-themes of Culture, Freedom, Adventure, and Leisure, each speaking to different aspects of the modern enthusiasm for travel and experiences. The brand's Culture theme is connected to architecture, sustainability and respect for other ways of life. Gender neutral accessories, street art, and fringed looks characterize this theme. Freedom takes its cues from ’70s surf culture and 1950s floral patterns. The rise of adventure tourism inspires the Adventure theme, which brings images of practicality, desert colors, and denim. Leisure calls to mind today’s luxury traveler, using nautical looks, bold colors, modern uses of pearls, and reflective surfaces to express the leisure traveler’s lifestyle.
To showcase the new collection’s application in nails, Eichi Matsunaga created nail designs inspired by the themes' colors and patterns, using the brand's new crystal cuts made specifically for nails. He used the new Majestic Blue Swarovski color, as well as new Lacquer Pro colors Buttercup, Lilac, and Lime. The crystals used in the looks will be available for purchase at Dreamtime Creations and Shiela Nail Art.
The Crystal Ninja herself, Kellie DeFries, created a fabulous pair of rainbow crystal sneakers.
