1994 marked the first time the annual North American Hairstyling Awards (NAHA) offered a competition category for nail techs since it was launched by BBSI six years previously. That first year, nail tech Marti Preuss took home the award for Best Nail Makeover. The competition remained open to techs until 1998, when the nail categories were discontinued. Fortunately, with the PBA now at the helm, NAHA welcomed techs back in 2015 with a Nail Professional of the Year category, won that year by Reiko Omae.
