“Fall was all about bold, glossy, and highly pigmented colors, but for spring 2014 nail trends are moving more toward subdued pastels,” says Morgan Taylor celebrity nail stylist, Gina Edwards. Edwards fashioned many of the fingernails that hit the spring runways, including those at Zac Posen and Tanya Taylor. Nudes and barely there pastels were the most popular choice among runway designers. The penchant for pastels will continue in the nail world as brands unveil their spring collections.

“Morgan Taylor’s Casual Cool collection is inspired by sporty chic meets ‘90s throwback with vivid pops of color and neutral hues that converge to create a refreshing new palette of colors that are flattering to a wide range of skin tones,” says the brand’s creative director, Alesia Lanzo. For clients who enjoy both pastels and brights, you can do as Edwards did for several of her Fashion Week manicures and blend custom colors. Another alternative is to create nail art that utilizes these colors. “The nail forecast is still going to be edged with graphic manicures,” says Lanzo, so don’t worry about going too subdued.
