A salon owner, licensed cosmetology instructor, industry advocate, and president of Kassidy’s Salon Management Consulting Company, Ken Cassidy passed away in October. He was a frequent contributor to NAILS on the topic of employees/booth rental/contract labor issues — a subject about which he was passionate. Salon owner Reneé Borowy of VIP Salon & Spa in Riverview, Mich., wrote this remembrance of him.

“I met Ken Cassidy more than 17 years ago. I was going through a very hard time with my salon, which had been incorrectly classified as having independent contractors by a CPA firm. The government had gotten involved and it was way over my head. I was introduced to him through NAILS Magazine. Ken was in the middle of a project but made time to help in any way that he could. He spent hours with me helping to create a plan for survival of my company. He was always gracious and always there for others. He himself was a very successful businessman. I was shocked and upset to hear the news that he passed. Ken was ‘cutting edge’ and way before his time with salon industry regulation. Ken and his legacy will be valued now and in the future.”
