Sponsored by the non-profit Salons Against Domestic Abuse Fund, the Cut It Out program is dedicated to mobilizing salons to fight domestic abuse in communities across the United States. Cut It Out builds awareness of domestic abuse in several ways. It furnishes awareness materials to be displayed in salons and provides training to salon professionals to help them recognize warning signs and safely refer clients to resources. The Adopt-a-Shelter initiative supports salons in helping local domestic violence agencies.

It’s easy to get involved and doesn’t require a great deal of work. All they are asking is for salons to display the materials. If salons and spas want to do more, Cut It Out will try and help coordinate with a local agency to teach the staff how to spot abuse.

The materials come in English and Spanish. There is even a perforated 800 number on the handout that people can tear off and discreetly carry that does not have any branding (in case they were caught with it).

Materials can be requested by calling the Professional Beauty Association’s main line at (800) 468-2274 or by e-mailing Rachel Molepske at rachel@probeauty.org.
