Open since June, Juste B An Organic Nail Bar is Baltimore’s first organic, 100% fume-free nail salon. At Juste B, everything from the building materials to the water-based polish was planned with sustainability in mind. Polish brands include Suncoat, Acquarella, and Scotch.

The salon is the brainchild of three like-minded women, all living a green and conscious lifestyle and eager to see an eco-friendly nail salon alternative in Baltimore. Maryam Dennis, Ambra J. Black, and Kenya Butler — the only nail tech in the bunch — established the salon in a neighborhood that has a huge green initiative and has been supportive since day one. “We use homemade scrubs and lotions that are paraben-free. All of our polishes are water-based and our removers are plant-based,” says Black. “We have hired two new techs just in the last few days so we’re up to six techs.”

As for the name of the salon, Juste B is about creating a space where consumers can just be themselves, laugh and chat, and relax in an environment that replicates home. “Being previous customers to other salons we didn’t want to build a place that was stuffy and almost too nice to get comfortable,” says Black.

In the short time it’s been open, the salon has built a strong following and gotten some great publicity. In addition to making the most of Facebook, Twitter, and Yelp, it offered a Groupon discount and sold 500 services in three hours.
