“We have a small but useful break room. We have lockers to put our purses in, a computer to look at our schedule and book appointments, table and chairs to eat, a microwave, and more. It’s handy and we all love it!” — Lenzi Moore

“The room size is approximately 20-ft. by 12-ft. It has positive-reinforcement board on the wall for announcements, customer praise letters, and e-mails. (Every time a guest sends an e-mail or card about the enjoyment of their experiences, we post it on our board.) OSHA posters are also on the walls. We have a full-sized refrigerator with freezer, full-sized microwave, sink, cabinets filled with mints and snacks for those days when a full meal is not an option, and attached is a locker room. The locker room has shoe pouches that act as our in/out mailboxes for our pay stubs and thank you cards that we are required to send out to new guests. Once they are all written o

“Our break room is quite nice. It has a full kitchen with a dishwasher. We pay monthly dues to keep it fully stocked with supplies (plastic/foil wraps, dishwashing soaps, etc.). We usually do a large salon lunch once a week or two. We also have a commercial coffeemaker for our clients to use throughout the day. The room color is soft yellow, and the style is like a bistro.” — Melody Watral

“Our break room has a fully-equipped kitchen so we can cater to bridal parties, corporate parties, and so on. We have a remote computer so staff can check in and out as well as view their schedules. We maintain a yearly calendar above the computer where important events are posted. Training manuals and MSDS are also located on a shelf above the computer. On Saturdays the staff brings in a dish to pass around, and we are able to cook the food here or just reheat it. We do this because Saturdays are so busy it is often impossible to go out for lunch.” — Brenda Skermont
Whether it’s for a quick e-mail check in the five minutes between clients or a lengthy lunch break during a lull, break rooms offer a respite from the hustle and bustle of the salon. Here are a few great examples.
