Amy Becker of Masterworks Innovations explains how she applies gel sealant without flooding the cuticle area:

Pick up a very small amount of gel on the end of the brush. Start in the center of the nail and wipe the gel off down the middle of the nail, away from the cuticle. Work the remaining gel left on the brush around the cuticle area. This will prevent excess gel from flooding the cuticles. Continue to brush through the entire body of the brush, and repeat on all five nails.

Before you cure the nails, pick up a little more gel and quickly brush through all five of the nails again. You don’t have to get close to the cuticle this time. The gels will have self-leveled evenly across the nails by the time you finish applying the last stroke. Cure for the manufacturer’s recommended amount of time, and you’re done.
