Industry Pioneer Passes On

Victor Curcio, head of VJ Curcio Beauty Supply, died December 14, in Lakewood, NJ. He was 79. Curcio brought thousands of innovative beauty products and concepts to market. His company also manufactured salon furniture and fixtures, and designed the interiors of beaty suppliers. Curcio began his career in his father's beauty supply business during the Depression, lived through the shortage of metal bob pins during World War II, and introduced the first bleach machine, acid wave, and blow dryer in New Jersey. Curcio retired in 1980. Two of his children remain in the professional beauty industry: Vincent Curcio of The Wild Company and Joni Rae Russell of Joni Rae and Associates.
