IBS ’88 featured the latest products and services for the professional salon industry as well as the latest styles and techniques in hair fashion, skin and nail care, cosmetics, health and fitness.
Nearly 300 contestants entered the various competitions, featuring fashion, hair, makeup and nails. The International Nail Competition included three categories of state-of-the-art manicure and nail services. Lynn James served as chairman of the nail competition.
The IBS is produced and managed by Edgell Expositions, the professional trade show division of Edgell Communications.
First place for sculptured nails was awarded to Gloria King of A Fine Tooth Comb in Louisville, Kentucky.
Second place, sculptured nails: Carol H. Maynard of A Fine Tooth Comb in Louisville, Kentucky. Third place: Kindra Ramirez, Encore in San Jose, California.
Denise Tosto placed first in Realistic Nail Art and took second for Fantasy Nai Art. Denise’s Nailtique is in Staten Island, New York.

Winner of third place for Realistic Nail Art was Tina Panariello, owner of Nail Artistry by Tina, Brooklyn, New York.
Third place winner in the Fantasy Nail Art division was Jill Mayo, who works at Nails Plus in Suffern, New York.
In the Fantasy Nail Art competition, Tommye James won first place. Nail Perfection by Tommye is in Metairie, Louisiana.
