It seems even government officials are missing going to the salon. Beaumont, Texas mayor Becky Ames was spotted at The Nail Bar last Tuesday with her hands soaking in a bowl. The mayor did wear a mask, but it was Ames who had called for the stay-at-home order to prevent spread of the coronavirus on March 27.

On Thursday, Ames apologized. "I promise there was no malice intended," she wrote in a statement. "I should never have entered the salon last Tuesday. I did not intend to take personal privilege while asking others to sacrifice and for that I am truly remorseful."

The mayor told a local news outlet that she went to the salon after talking to the owner about removing an old set. She said she needed acetone and the salon onwer agreed to leave some out for her in a bowl. The mayor was at The Nail Bar for 10 minutes and did not get her nails re-done.

The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation and the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the incident. The resulting fine could be $1,000 if it was determined a violation occurred.

Texas nail salons could re-open as of May 18.
