At our salon we offer our guests a beverage while waiting for their technician. Our waiting area has oversized sofas and chairs with throw pillows. They may also watch television or just relax and listen to music. They can also browse our retail area while waiting; however, we rarely have anyone wait more than five minutes. — Brenda Skermont, AbFab Salon and Spa, Rockford, Ill.

I have comfy wing-back chairs for my clients to sink into, a large variety of current magazines to read, easy listening music playing staged near a picture window that they can view the outside action but not feel like they are on display. I am told frequently by clients how restful and peaceful my shop is. I enjoy hearing this because life is a hectic rat race and folks need to have a place to feel safe, happy and at peace, while being pampered. — Kay Porter, Rivertown Nails, Antioch, Calif.
