The winner of NAILS’ 2006 Self Portrait Contest, Vu Nguyen, used a dark-to-light shading technique to bring his portrait to life. Nguyen, a nail tech at Provence Salon & Boutique in Bonsall, Calif., says that as a former art student, he’s painted portraits before. “But this is first time I’ve painted myself,” he says.
