Celebrity manicurist Kimmie Kyees was on hand at the 2007 MTV Movie Awards to accessorize Rihanna’s show-stopping, black patent-leather dominatrix outfit with China Glaze polish. Kyees painted the singer’s nails a hot pink and accentuated the tip of each nail with Liquid Leather (a dark, vinyl-like black), while painting only the middle finger of each hand entirely black.

Kyees also got the chance to give “Rehab” singer Amy Winehouse a personalized manicure with EZ Flow acrylics and China Glaze polish. At Winehouse’s request, she painted Red Alert (a vibrant red) down just the middle of her EZ Flow High Definition Acrylics, making sure not to coat the sides or the cuticle area. Winehouse called this look “dolly nails,” which was a reference to the tiny nail beds seen on dolls.

Another high-profile manicurist, Marsha Bialo, is offering the Louboutin Manicure at her Los Angeles salon. Inspired by the designer’s signature red-soled pumps, Bialo is using Ruby Pumps (a red with red glitter) on the underside of the nail, and then Lubu Heels (and new black with red glitter) on the top. “You need to have some length for the visual impact of this dramatic nail,” says Bialo. Any color combination will work, but if you want it to say ‘Louboutin,’ the underside should be red.
