Smack dab in the middle of bustling Union Square sits Cinta Salon, a full-service salon catering to this city’s residents---everyone from busy working professionals who work in the area’s financial district to funky artists to at-home mothers. Owner Cinta Gibbons describes her namesake as a classic urban destination where creativity flows as clients and nail techs, stylists, and estheticians interact. “People come here for the experience,” says Cinta. “We consider ourselves an upbeat, fun place that maintains an artistic edge.”

During my first visit to this elegant, cosmopolitan yet funky city, I decided the best way to start my vacation would be to visit a salon that perfectly matched the city’s vibe. And I found it at Cinta Salon, which has been at its current location atop a clothing boutique for three years.

The salon was previously located in another part of town, but Cinta decided she needed a location that allowed for more light. This new location has that—and more. Here, nail services get the attention they rightfully deserve. The nail area is prominently located near the reception desk and waiting area. Three fulltime nail techs attend to client’s every nail need.

Cinta even decided to make pedicure services a little more private and luxurious by housing them in their own separate room. The curtained room contains two custom-built pedicure chairs and bowls, with relaxing music wafting through the sound system. The room has proved so popular that Cinta says it’s not uncommon for clients to hold business meetings while their feet are being pampered. “We’re giving more attention to nails and are reaping the benefits,” she says. And clients can attest to that. Cinta says the nail portion of her business attracts a diverse clientele ranging from 28-to 60-year-olds.

My nail tech, Irena Vayn, insisted on giving me a freehand French manicure -- her specialty.

During my visit, I decided to try something new. My nail tech, Irena Vayn, insisted I try a French manicure, and I relented. I’m used to wearing mostly dark colors or keeping my nails natural. Irena polished the white tips free hand, making sure to clean the edges so my smile lines would look perfect. I liked how clean and polished my nails looked. My salon visit really was a great beginning to a wonderful stay in the City by the Bay.
