On the Road: Base Coat

Base Coat’s Downtown Los Angeles location employs nine nail techs and has enough space for 15 simultaneous services.

The casual, non-frilly vibe and use of gender-neutral scents brings in a lot of male clients.

Base Coat is known for its unique hashtag #TreatYoSelf.

My nail tech, Cintya Chan, says gel manicures are her favorite service to perform.

The salon uses custom-designed private label products — from hand sanitizer and spa products to polish and retail items.

This location has been open for a little more than a year.

The Downtown Los Angeles salon is the only one of Base Coat’s four locations to serve alcohol.

You can get a tarot reading with your nail service on Saturdays from 12-5 p.m.
