Paris Fashion Week Nails: CND for Vivienne Westwood

CND created urban, grafitti-like nail designs for Vivienne Westwood's Paris Fashion Week show.

Vivienne Westwood’s Spring/Summer 2019 collection is an ode to an urban wasteland. The setting for the show was a concrete parking garage, filled with models skating down the runway, adorned with pieces that can only be described as post-apocalyptic skate-street chic. The paper shrine looming above, bringing graffiti into 3-D, elicits the unmistakable feeling of walking (or skating) down a city sidewalk and stumbling upon an intricate mural of street art. Westwood’s SS19 collection is a pure expression of urban tribal culture — a little dirty, a little gritty and a lot of soul.

To bring Westwood’s post-apocalyptic fashion vision to life, CND ambassador Marian Newman, CND lead designer Shelena Robinson, and the CND Design Lab team created the ultimate urban manicure. Nails were kept at a medium length and oval shaped –androgynous and functional. All nails in the collection are meant to be wearable for the everyday and every risky maneuver. Each design showcases that creative inspiration and artistic genius can come from anywhere, whether it be asphalt street markings, race tracks stripes, or even dark city pavement.

“These manicures are so understated and so reflective of Vivienne Westwood’s urban tribal culture and current conversation of the culture movements that are happening today,” says CND co-founder and style director Jan Arnold. “Simple yet so impactful!”

STANDOUT LOOK: WARNING!

Hand painted by the CND Design Lab team, this nail look is the ultimate statement. Inspired by freshly paved roadways, the matte black serves as a fitting background to yellow graffiti-like nail art – the only signs and rules that keeps road rage in check. Nails were short, wearable and functional, not to get in the way of their street-skate skills. This nail look is both a warning and a nod to urban culture and community.
