Pedicure Throne Q&A

We wanted to get more of the specifics on what a potential buyer should look for when investing in a pedicure throne.

We asked Rebecca Reed, marketing manager of European Touch Ltd. II and Jim Casteel, vice president of sales and marketing for Amerispa, to give us some insight.

Q: What should a nail tech look for when purchasing a pedicure throne?

A: Look for quality, value, and options, to name a few things.Consider the brand name and what the manufacturer offers in terms of options and customer support.

Q: What are some basic features a pedicure throne should have?

A: The features that seem to be the most popular and keep customers coming back for more are a whirlpool tub to massage and cleanse clients’ feet, a comfortably designed seat that offers massage, and a chair that slides forward and back to comply with different heights. Chairs should be ergonomically designed and of ample size to fit the larger American body, including a rapidly growing male clientele base.

Q: What should a nail technician or salon owner keep in mind when purchasing a pedicure throne?

A: Most pedicure thrones require plumbing, so they should speak to a licensed plumber to ensure that their salon has the capability of installing a pedicure spa. Get educated on what each manufacturer offers. Talk to the manufacturer’s customer service department to get as many details as possible on the equipment they offer, as well as on the company itself to ensure they make the right decision that best suits their salon and their clients. Keep in mind that you get what you pay for. The lowest price doesn’t always mean the best value.

Q: What type of maintenance does a pedicure throne require?

A: As long as you keep up on the basic maintenance of the pedicure throne according to the manufacturer’s requirements, the throne should provide years of troublefree service. Call the manufacturer with any questions about upkeep and maintenance.

Q: What does a typical warranty offer?

A: Although they vary, a typical warranty is usually two years on the whirlpool pump and motor and one year on all other parts. It’s important to know and understand the manufacturer’s warranty requirements because in order for the warranty to be valid, some manufacturers require that a salon show proof that a licensed plumber or electrician installed the pedicure throne.
