After spending a little over an hour at The Nail Lounge, girl scouts can walk away with a lot more than well-groomed nails. The Costa Mesa, Calif.-based salon plays host to teen and tween girls who earn their “healthy habits” scouting badge by attending a presentation on hand and nail care. “We talk about the importance of wearing shoes, not pulling hang nails, and hand-washing. Then I teach them how to give themselves a manicure,” says Cassie Piasecki, the salon’s former owner.
“We charge $10 per girl. They get to take home the files, a buffer, and a scrub brush. The troop leader is in charge of distributing the badges.” The salon also gives them a coupon for a free “Little Lounger” manicure with purchase of a pedicure in hopes they will return with Mom.
