New York gals have been sporting a new nail art trend these last few weeks. Along with their regular manicures and fills, they’re getting creative designs atop the season’s dark polish (or a classic French) on the ring finger only. Although the look isn’t completely new, it definitely seems to be picking up steam on the East Coast.

Wondering if it’s a sign of the economic times (could they not afford art for the full set?) or a completely artistic decision, NAILS contributor Jayna Rust asked one of the (very stylish) local middle school girls why she got white wisps on only her hands’ one digit. Samantha said at her nail appointment her nail tech was all be-decked in the standard 10-digit nail art, which was cool…but a little too much for her. “I thought it would just ‘pop’ more on one,” she added, confirming that it was definitely a style — not economic decision — that made her choice. Another girl added that the art seemed more “like an accessory” and super classy when done up on just one finger.

Want to give it a go at your place? As this new fashion statement takes hold, techs can use this as an opportunity to upsell clients to a small-priced, but very fun service add-on.
