We’re kicking off our 25th anniversary this month, and rather than fill an entire magazine with a look back at how far we’ve come, we decided to use this special celebration to introduce you to the reincarnation of NAILS — a look to the future, if you will.

For 17 years Cyndy Drummey has been doling out wisdom and opinions on important industry issues on this page. I know I’m stepping in to fill some pretty big shoes. (Lucky for me, there’s only one wall separating our offices so if I ever need inspiration she’s right where I need her.)

You’ll notice quite a few changes in the look of NAILS (yes, we even changed the logo!). What hasn’t changed is we’re still your industry magazine. After countless salon visits over the last year and an intensive reader survey, I’m confident that we know you better than ever. We asked you what you like about the magazine, what you don’t like, what you’d like to see more of (and less of), and what types of stories you want more coverage of. We got down in the trenches of salon life across the country to see how you’re doing business — and to see how business is doing.

We talked to salon owners, employees, booth renters, manufacturers, and distributors. Our goal in all this — to get to know you, my dear readers, better so we can bring you a better industry magazine. We want to connect with you at a completely new level. Our aim is to help you be more successful at what you do.

You’ll notice that the magazine now has four key sections — Technique, Style, Business, and Health. I believe dividing each issue up this way will make it easier for you to find exactly what you’re looking for. It will also ensure that we’re bringing you monthly coverage of the topics that are most important to you.

In a survey last summer, you told us that you want more nail art, more health stories (both about your health and nail health), more Q&As with experts and other techs, and more technical information. Our four sections are hitting these topics hard. We’ve got more how-tos, more nail art, and more step-by-steps than ever before.

But don’t think we’re stopping here. We’d love to hear your thoughts on the new look and the new direction. Any time you read something that helps you out or even something that gets under your skin, I’d love to hear from you. You can drop me a note at hannah.lee@bobit.com.
