On September 11, Tom Holcomb was in the Netherlands in the middle of one of his European educational tours. When he got hack from his class that afternoon (the Nether­lands is nine hours ahead of New York) and turned on the TV in his hotel room, he was shocked to see the events that were unfolding in the United States. Due to the situation, Tom, who is the creative director for EZ Flow, was unable to get home to the U.S. immediately. But he did get home, and he eventually began to travel again.

While at the Tokyo Nail Expo last November, Tom found a way to honor the city he loves so much. Doing what he does best, he applied a set of design-sculptured acrylics in competition on his model with a New York City theme. The New York City skyline is highlighted in his nails with the big apple, New York Stock Exchange, and Broadway accents. He took first place at the competition. To immortalize the look, he replicated his winning design on a set of tips.
