Robbie Schaeffer, celebrity manicurist and owner of ROB|B — the first OPI Concept Salon — in Studio City, Calif., offers expert advice on how to maintain a manicure and keep the “fresh from the salon” look even longer.

“A well-manicured hand is just as much of a fashion accessory as shoes and purses,” says Schaeffer. “It is extremely important for women to keep their hands, nails, and fingers in perfect condition at all times. Luckily, this can be easily accomplished with the right products and services.”

Before polish application, Schaeffer explains that proper hand, nail, and cuticle care is an essential step in the process. “Hydration is critical to maintaining a manicure. Women should always start with a high-intensity cream (like OPI’s Avoplex High-Intensity Hand & Nail Cream) to deliver essential moisture and a cuticle oil (like OPI Avoplex Cuticle Oil to Go) to reduce dry, flaky skin and hangnails.”

Schaeffer also recommends that women immediately fill in any chips and scratches in their polish. This will keep the nails fully covered at all times and will prevent additional damage to the state of the nails. Schaeffer suggests keeping a nail file and a bottle of the polish used on hand at all times.
