The Long Beach convention Center will open its doors Jan. 29-31 as the site of the 40th annual Beauty and Trade show of the Long Beach Hairdressers Guild.

In keeping with the Guild’s 50 anniversary, they are planning to make this particular show their biggest and best effort to date, by booking internationally renowned styling artists representing all of the top manufacturers.

Exhibits are being set up by over 325 manufacturers and jobbers, and styling artist will appear in 14 classrooms or workshops.

Trophies, medallions and cash prizes totaling $6,700 will be awarded to winners competing in 17 competitions over the three days Competitions will include: sculptured nail contests for both professional and student; an artistic nail painting contest; a fantasy nail are contest; a student hairstyling competition; male and female model professional haircutting contest: student quick service haircutting contests with male and female models; student and professional evening corrective make-up contest; fantasy make-up (ball masque) contest, and a student and professional make-up prosthetics contest.

 Ongoing contests will be held in the Long Beach arena.

 “We’re expecting over 700 contest entrants “explained Ken Eaton, show chairman. “Our total attendance at last year’s show was 37, 000,” he added, saying that he fully expects to break 40,000 this year.

 According to Eaton, there will be no extra charge to attend classrooms, workshops, or contests. “The low daily price of $15 per day lets the attended any function ‘fee’, “he described.

 Show times are 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday and Monday. And on Sunday night the traditional Long Beach Hairdressers Guild dance will be held aboard the Queen Mary. Admission is $4.

The Long Beach Guild, founded in 1933, exists to promote the professionalism and advancement of hairdressing and the beauty industry. They sponsor education classes throughout the year with profits from their two large annual shows in Long Beach, and San Diego. CA. They also provide scholarships for both beginning and advanced hairdressers.
