There are two sides to the Vamp story. On the one hand, it did wonders for nails by getting everybody talking about it and by getting people looking at nails and wearing color. On the other hand, this nail polish phenomenon should have come from one of our own professional manufacturers first. I know that just about every polish maker in the industry feels the same way and is at work on the next Vamp. To do it, they’ll need the help of salons to spread the word.

At NAILS we are committed to focusing more pages every month on nail care styles and trends that come from the salon level. Look at our polish preview on page 44 and try NOT to get excited about the new colors that professional manufacturers have launched for the spring and summer. There is something for every client — whether it’s a 16-year-old who wears her nails metallic blue or the society matron who wouldn’t dream of anything but a classic red on her nails.

Last month we featured an entire style trend layout showing new polish styles, including the Vamp-y colors, a gold twist on the French manicure, blue nails (our phones have been ringing off the hook about that one!), and chic pastels. These articles are designed to get you excited about the products out there and about how you can use them to create excitement with your clients. If you have trend ideas of your own, give us a call.

Another way NAILS is making sure that the professional industry is at the forefront of style-setting (and not taking orders from the often off-the-mark fashion magazines) is by making sure that every beauty editor of every major beauty magazine receives a free copy of NAILS so they can scan them for die trends and report them to their readers. So if you don’t know how to create those wild blue nails you saw on last months cover, call us now! Because pretty soon the readers off Glamour, Vogue, Elle, and Allure are going to be hearing about them and asking their nail technicians to give them the blues.
