Nineteen years ago when I stared in the nail business, I loved working with professional nail technicians. I knew technicians who were making $ 1,000 per week and their enthusiasm and energy were phenomenal. In recent years, however, salaries have gone down and opportunities for growth in new areas have decreased. And when their income opportunities dropped, so did their enthusiasm and love of this business.

But I’m happy to say that at the last three shows I’ve attended, I’ve seen a tremendous shift-all due to the explosion in natural nail and hand care. Techs have told me they are earning $1,500-$2,000 per week doing hand care treatments, including one I recommend, the non-surgical handlift, and retailing home hand care products like Cuccio Naturales. What’s more, they’re having fun again.

Hand care is the fastest-growing service in the nail industry. Just look at Lorena’s & Moore Day Spa in Decatur, Ill., where they’ve increased their natural nail and hand care service dollars by 25% in the last year and their retailing revenue by 35%. It goes to show you that with new products, you can create new services, which creates new income. And all that together makes for much more fun.

So let’s have some fun and make some money.
