Quite a Ride

The media likes feel-good stories this time of year and what could be happier than a woman who painted her entire car with nail polish? How about two women painting their cars with polish?

One of the lead stories on Yahoo.com today is about Jill Bell, an Urbana, Md., woman who spent 13 months repainting her car in a quilt-like pattern. As a quilter, she found the multi-pattern paint job fitting, she told the Maryland Gazette. Bell said she collected between 100 to 250 bottles of nail polish, but did not have an exact count as she simply used bottles from anyone she could get it from. “Lots of ladies in my church donated nail polish, and lots of ladies at Weight Watchers, too,” she said.

Turns out, her actions were not as unique as you’d think. In January 2006, NAILS reported on South Carolina resident Yvonne Millner, who garnered a great deal of national media attention after a local TV station ran a story about her and her 1996 Mitsubishi Mirage. The car — dubbed Smiley — was also covered with an assortment of lively polish designs. “I chose nail polish because I wanted to use all different colors and I wanted something that would not wash off,” she told us.
