Week 9: Staying Busy for the Holidays

by NAILS Magazine | December 20, 2010 | Bookmark +

This past week was fun. It was busy! Everyone is getting ready for the holidays and starting vacations so they all want to look their best. We stayed busy Thursday, Friday and Saturday with clients. I got to do a few fills and several pedicures and manicures. I have almost fulfilled all of my practical requirements and with as busy as my books are for next week, I will probably exceed my requirements. I am already booked solid on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week! I finished out the week with 300 hours and I am currently looking at January 8th to graduate due to the days off we get for the holidays. Since I will be able to get some outside hours for doing my blog, I am hoping for Friday the 7th to graduate so my sweetheart and I can go away for the weekend.

Tuesday and Wednesday mornings were quiet this week and I discovered that I really like doing nail art. On Tuesday evening I ran over to visit my old roommate and we were looking at nail art ideas on the web. It inspired me. There is no reason that I can’t do that! I took my time practicing when I had the chance this week and I definitely had a blast. This first picture that I have enclosed is some of the stuff that I was able to create. I am definitely planning on taking a nail art class. I am so interested in learning to do some of the 3-D nail art that I am seeing. I saw that you can also do that with gel and I really want to know how to do that well. I don’t know that I will have a huge clientele for it, but I keep posting my pictures to my Facebook page in the hopes that my friends will be interested in trying something different when they can start seeing me for their nail care needs.

Theory this week was on Nail Wraps and Repairs, easy stuff since we have been learning about that and going over it since the first day of school. I am still glad that we were actually tested on it because it is very likely that we will see those questions on the state board. Our instructor went over the procedures for our state board practical exam this week as well. She told us everything that would be in the kit that we will rent for the test, where it will all go at our station and how we will perform each step of the exam. Our school actually tests us on this procedure. We get to do what they call “baby boards” so we can get a test of what is truly expected of us from the state. This is one of the biggest reasons that I chose this school. We are so well-prepared that pretty much as soon as you walk through the door to take the test you have already passed. Our baby boards are scheduled for the week after Christmas. We get two days of practice testing and we will get a third day before our state board date. (On a side note: I have not yet gotten my date yet. As soon as I know, you will know!)

I had new business cards made that I received this week that say in lettering across them “Nail Services Coming February 2011!” I want everyone who picks up my card to be aware that I am going to be able to do manicures, pedicures and nail enhancements soon! I also got my website back up-and-running and have added a heading about nail services plus a link to my blog so my clients and potential clients can keep up with what I am doing and where I am. I know I said it last week and probably the weeks before, but I am so excited and ready to be licensed. I can not wait to be performing all my new services. Good things come to those who wait so I promise to be patient and to allow for the time it takes for these things to come together — I just wish it would hurry up!
