Blueprint of a First Year

Lucy's State Board Exam

by NAILS Magazine | December 30, 2010 | Bookmark +

Lucy took both her written and practical exams this month and passed them both. Of course, she tried to trick me by telling me she didn't pass. Then while I was trying to console her, she sprung the good news on me that she actually had passed. I'm so very proud of her and I knew she'd pass with flying colors. She originally took the written exam last month but didn't pass (by only a few points). Come to find out the school she attended gave her the wrong paperwork, so she had taken the cosmetology exam instead of the nail tech exam! That’s why she didn't get a passing score.

She had to re-sign up for the correct exam. Since she did so well on the first exam without having learned anything about hair, I knew she'd pass the nails-only exam. We’d done mock practical exams in the salon for her in November so she'd be prepared for the practical. I LOVE getting new techs in the salon. It's so refreshing to see someone right out of school who is so excited about the industry. And I LOVE the opportunity to help a newbie in the industry.
