Setting Up a Facebook Page for Your Salon (Part 1)

by Holly Schippers | January 11, 2011 | Bookmark +

Do you have a Facebook page for your salon? If the answer is no, could I ask why not? Facebook is a free resource that could be an interactive tool that brings clients into the salon. If you choose to put some money into it you can, or you can just make use of all the free stuff. If your reason for not doing it is simply not knowing what to do, let me help you with that today!

The first step is going to Facebook and creating a page. I will warn you now that if you link your salon page to your personal page, your personal page will cease to be personal and you will want to consider editing what you post in words and photos. If you would like to keep it separate then just create a new account to host your salon page. I will walk you through as if you had a personal page you don’t mind linking to. Once we get that far the rest should be self explanatory and if it is not, another blog on it will be coming up later in the week as part 2.

Once you are at Facebook, choose create a page for a celebrity, band or business by clicking on it.

Next select that this will be an official page by clicking in the circle next to local business, choose business type then give it a name (your salon name is good, or salon name and city). You will also want to check the box saying you are officially a representative of the business then click create official page.

You will get a pop-up asking if you are sure you are allowed to do this, click create page if you really are allowed to create a page representing your salon.

It is time to select whether or not you already have a Facebook page (and decide if you want your personal and salon pages linked). Click the circle beside the relevant choice; for a separate account fill in all your info and type in the captcha (the word jumble) then check the agree to term box and click sign up now, if you want to link to your personal account just sign in. If you are setting this up as a separate account, use the salon name as the name since it will set up a normal page since Facebook does not allow business pages to stand completely alone for whatever reason. (If this confuses you at all please go ahead and wait a few days for part two.)

Now you have a Facebook page for the salon! As you can see a lot of the set up is mapped out for you — just click on things and start filling them in. (If there is anything you need more detail on doing just ask and I can create a part 3 if needed!)

Hints: If you set up photo albums consider making separate albums for different categories (ie: nails, toes, etc.).

Get your salon page started and leave me any questions you may run into. Part 2 later this week will cover setting up the salon page without connecting it to your personal page for any of you who are not feeling confident going through it on your own. I will be sure to cover vanity urls and any questions or issues you may have by adding a part 3 if you need it!

For those that already have a Facebook page, feel free to share it if you like and give us some tips and tricks! The page I set up for the salon if you want to just take a look to get ideas is here.

You are welcome to “like” it, but I respectfully request that you not leave technical questions on that page as I created it to give my customers a place to go and not be bombarded with technical information. You can leave technical questions for me here or on my official Facebook page www.facebook.com/fingernailfixer.
