The Safe Nail Salons Project

by Kimberly Pham | March 25, 2011 | Bookmark +

In 2009, the Boston Public Health Commission in association with Viet-AID produced two videos for their Safe Nail Salons Project called "Safe Nail Salons: Keeping You and Your Clients Healthy." The Boston Public Health Commission posted the videos on YouTube and have since gotten close to 6,000 hits. Both videos are in Vietnamese with English subtitles. The videos touch on topics from skin exposure and inhalation to problems that can arise from improper ventilation and handling of chemicals used in the salon.

Narrators Hoa Mai Nguyen (Viet-AID) and Nancie Nguyen (Boston Public Health Commission) also talk about the importance of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), which are required by most if not all states for each product used in the salon, and staying away from banned ingredients such as methyl methacrylate (MMA).

For more information on the Safe Nail Salon Project in Boston, contact Nancie Nguyen from the Boston Public Health Commission at (617) 534-5966.
