Adding Profit Without Adding Time

by NAILS Magazine | May 6, 2011 | Bookmark +

Wouldn’t we all like to add more money to our day?  Boy, I definitely would. It is easy to come up with extra things that we can add that take more time, but that cuts us off from last-minute or impulse upgrades when we are booked back to back. This requires a little more thought. Keep in mind that it is necessary to structure the service with the time to do the addition.  We offer add-ons to the manicure and pedicure services much like Jill does at her salon. Here at my salon, we offer three levels of manicures and pedicures and the time to do each of the additional treatments is built right in so we always have time to do it even if the guest changes her mind partway through the service. This just recently happened to me with a bridal party and thank goodness we have our services built that way; otherwise I would have had to turn them down and lose out on the additional income.

The art of the add-on is one of the things that Kristi mentioned in her class and also on her audio CDs from Crystal Focus. For instance we offer are an elbow exfoliation service, which is something Kristi talked about on one of her CD programs.  It takes minimal time — maybe two to five minutes — and is a great $10 addition. We use a sugar scrub and massage it into the elbow, then remove it with a hot towel and apply a moisturizer. We also offer Gelish as an add-on to any of our other services. It takes no more time than polishing the nail. These are just a couple of the additional services that we have had success with.
