The Rise of Canadian Nail Salons

by NAILS Magazine | September 19, 2011 | Bookmark +

We found this interesting 14-minute video, an excerpt from CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) show The National that  discusses the evolution of nail salons in Canada. It’s interesting in its similarities and differences to the rise of nail salons in the U.S. Like in the U.S., actress Tippi Hedren is credited with helping get Vietnamese immigrants to enter the nail salon business. Unlike in the U.S., there is no nail tech licensing in most Canadian provinces, which creates some unique problems.

By the way, if you want to learn more about that beautifully designed Kitchener, Ontario salon, Tips2Toes Nail Spa, that’s featured in this clip, check out the salon profile we published on them. The owner told us that getting that coverage in NAILS helped land them that spot on this reputed consumer news program!
