Nails 101: A Student Blog

Finished the Textbook

Hello my fellow readers and nail lovers, I hope the past week has been as rewarding to all of you as it has to me. The salon was slow once again. It seems like the only day for a full schedule is our mandatory Saturdays. I was able to ger a lot of studying in.

We finished chapter 16 (nail tips and wraps), chapter 17 (monomer liquid and polymer powder nail enhancements), chapter 18 (UV gels), and chapter 19 (the creative touch/nail art/color theory and mediums). I was able to test out of Chapter 20 -22, the business skills section. I received 100% on all the exams, except that I missed one question when testing out of the business section.

So now, I'm done with the textbook. All tests are taken. Now I have to take the final exam and SNAP, there are only hours to finish after that!

I want to work now! School is nice because clients do not expect an expert, but I'm kind of a perfectionist so I'm ready to be in the field guaranteeing my work!

This week I went with a silver-beaded spiderweb nail art design. I used Gelish gel polish for this design. The UV-LED 30-second cure is great, but I found that I had to add more coats to get desired look. But at least using the LED lamp it's speedy and overall it's a great product. I call this design the iThumb (instead of Blackberry Bling, which some nail techs call it when you highlight the thumb or the ring finger). I still love my CND, but I just had to try the Gelish to see the difference in the time for full sets. I'd say it's about the same, possibly 10 minutes less time than the normal Shellac manicure.

Have a great week!
