Tuan and Cici Ngo, owners of La Bella Nail Spa in Tacoma, Wash., are giving back to their hometown of Vung Tau, Vietnam, by rebuilding an old dock that is used by the community.

Vung Tau is a seaside city in Southern Vietnam with extensive beaches and a large fishing industry. The couple visits their family in Vung Tau every year and noticed the dock, the same one that Cici remembers playing near as a child, was falling apart.

The dock now poses a threat to children playing around it and is still a central location for fishermen in the area, so the couple decided to take matters into their own hands to help rebuild. In one of their previous projects, the couple helped build a dining hall for an orphanage in the city.

Aside from co-owner of La Bella Nail Spa, Tuan is also an architect. This is his proposed design for the new dock.

Within the last five years, the couple has also given back to their Tacoma, Wash. community, often donating to local causes and benefits. One of their greatest donations was an all-inclusive trip to Vietnam as part of a fundraiser auction benefiting their local Mary Bridge Children's Hospital. The couple has also planned trips with their salon clients to show them their beautiful hometown.

La Bella Nail Spa’s website also invites others to submit fundraising ideas to help the community and they are still accepting donations. To help with La Bella Nail Spa’s dock rebuilding project, you can donate at their funding page. The fundraising goal is $9k. Tuan and Cici will cover the rest of the cost if they don’t meet their goal.

Construction started on Nov. 1. I plan on keeping up with their progress.
