Nail Techs Portrayal in the Media

by Holly Schippers | October 9, 2014 | Bookmark +

Well did you watch Nail’d It? I don’t personally have cable, but luckily I viewed it online and it was definitely interesting to watch! Jan and Tom did a great job as judges in the first episode providing insightful comments and I loved that Tom walked around checking on the contestants at one point. As someone that has learned under him, he really is that sweet and considerate in person, so willing to share what he knows and help you find your own strengths. The nail styles were very interesting to them come together; the only thing that was disappointing was the way nail professionals as a whole may be perceived.

It’s disappointing to see that once again we may come off as not education seeking, client appreciating, humble, hardworking people; but as a stereotype. Hopefully this will change in future episodes as I would love for consumers to focus on the work and not be distracted by unprofessional behavior.  Kudos to LaToya for leaving with dignity, she did a great job in the competition and would definitely be a great follow on Instagram!

Just out of curiosity how many of you caught the little note in the credits that the judges had to take input from show producers into consideration for the results? What are your thoughts and feelings on the nails, the judging, and the way nail techs have been represented?
