This week we watched a demonstration with the wonderful Gisela Marti, the creative director for Tammy Taylor Nails. I was so excited to finally have a formal introduction to a brand and product line that I see so many nail technicians are committed to using. Ms. Marti gave us so much useful information on the history of Tammy Taylor and the evolution of her brand and products, such as her three types of nail forms for the different shapes I may come across as a nail technician that she let us all sample. The theme of the demonstration was “Complete a Full Set in an Hour” using Tammy Taylor’s “4 ball method” and Prizma acrylic powder and monomer. Ms. Marti went through the steps of proper prep and application during a demonstration on a fellow student. She went into depth about the most important job for a nail tech, which is the safety of her clients, by using the proper solutions to sanitize, disinfect, and sterilize your tools and salon. I was especially intrigued when she listed the out-of-salon uses for Tammy Taylor’s disinfectant, First Choice. It can be used in both your salon and home to clean, disinfect, deodorize, sanitize, and can even be used as a detergent for laundry. I actually made a note to purchase and begin using First Choice to disinfect my tools.
It's already been seven weeks of nail school and I feel a bittersweet emotion. As I use these last days to finish up my required services, part of me wishes I could remain in school forever where there are clients, supplies, and products to practice with at my fingertips, and peers with whom I can share and learn from without pressure. This experience of becoming a technician has been one of the best experiences in my life, and I am so proud of myself for making the choice to finally pursue this career. And although there is a sense of security with still being a student, I am eager to get out into the real world and truly make a name for myself. After all, I believe the real learning begins after nail school.
Until next week,
— Tisha
