As I mentioned in Monday’s blog, this time of year we tend to have a higher income and could be planning how to spend it. In addition to setting some aside for education, there is also the idea of earmarking part of it for new products. Do you need to replace any of your tools, have anything sharpened, etc.? Here is something a fellow nail professional pointed out to me that has been great for the salon. If you do any stamping or custom decals, you will love it as much as I do!

The product is a stamping mat from UberChic. Want to win one? I have two to giveaway, to be entered to win just leave a comment on this blog!

Here is a quick look at it from me:

Here’s a Q&A with the owner and creator that will help give you even more insight into the mats. Feel free to ask any additional questions in the comments or on social media!

How do the mats hold up to blades?

It holds up well to most sharp implements. With that said,  it isn't indestructible so it can theoretically be cut. I'd be more than happy to send you a couple to test out if you'd like! I've poked and drug all my blades across it (including an exacto knife) and it's held up brilliantly without a blemish. It's a very thick silicone.

Is it compatible with normal polish only or can CND Shellac and gel-polishes be used on it?

In a simple answer, yes!! I'm more of a gel girl myself so I definitely made sure it would work with both. Now as far as using gel on it...Let me clarify a little: you can easily cure gel-polish swatches on the mat but since gel / Shellac is less pliable when it hardens, it may be more difficult if you're trying to make a gel decal and transfer it. Does that make sense? Typically for me, I'll do my gel/Shellac mani like normal and then I'll make a decal or reverse stamp on the mat with my regular nail polish and apply it to the top of the gel mani, then just add a layer of gel top coat, cure and you're done- beautiful nail art that lasts up to two weeks!

Does regular acetone use affect the print on the mat such as the drawings of the fingers?

Oh heck no! I use 100% acetone on it constantly and there has been no breakdown of the print on it. That was definitely the first thing I checked when I first started the concept since you have to use acetone to clean your nail stamp plates. It was just a must. Nail polish remover is obviously less corrosive but just in case, it works great with that too!

Do they have to be stored a certain way?

For the storing: It should roll out just fine and stay flat each time with a little massaging but really not much at all. I've kept one stored in fourths (folded twice) in a drawer for the past few months and have not noticed any creasing or curling.

Is there a certain number of mats you would suggest having in the salon?

I think it'll depend on the tech. If you don't have a lot of time between clients and you find you're making it extra mess, you may want a few so you can set one aside to clean for later and get a new one for your next client. If you don't make it all that dirty though it will be incredibly fast to clean up with a few swipes of acetone so they will want to keep that in mind too.

*Note from FingerNailFixer: Having two is super handy in case you make a good size mess and want to set one aside for cleaning later. I found that it is easy to clean even after sitting a bit! Alcohol cleans of pigments and Shellac or gel-polish while acetone works great for normal polish.
