How to Handle the UV Lamp Controversy

The UV controversy pertaining to nails doesn’t seem to catch on to the facts as quickly as the falsifications and scare tactics used by the media. This means as nail professionals we have to really educate existing and potential clients on the truth. This sneak peek, an excerpt from Doug Schoon’s upcoming book, is the perfect thing to copy and paste into a document, give it a lovely font and border, then print and display!

"Interestingly, doctors have been providing medical treatments for psoriasis using UV for many years and consider these treatments to be very safe. When scientific researchers compared UV nail services to the skin exposure from medical UV psoriasis treatments, it was determined that a nail client would have to receive 250 years of weekly UV manicures to equal the risks associated with just one course of these safe medical psoriasis treatments. This is what one of the world-leading experts in UV effects on skin, Dr. Robert Sayre says of doctors who suggest these nail lamps may not be safe: “Doctors are grossly over exaggerating exposures.”  Dr. Sayre tested a wide range of UV nail lamps using internationally accepted standards and measurement equipment to make this safe use determination."
