LaShaun Brown-Glenn is a well-known name in the nail industry. With a wealth of knowledge and experience to share, NAILS is happy to announce she now has a blog (https://lbrownglenn.wordpress.com/). To celebrate, we interviewed LaSahun and picked her brain about Speaking On Point.

NAILS: Why start a blog now?

LaShaun Brown-Glenn:  I'm wearing fewer hats now than I have in the past, so I have the time to commit, though it's limited currently to one day a week. The blog gives me a place to confront the challenges that we all face, personally and professionally. I've been fortunate to travel the world on behalf of our industry, and the issues we face are the same worldwide. I'm here to help and share my knowledge and experience. Most importantly, I want to inspire others to take actions so they can experience life to the fullest.

NAILS: What is “Speaking on Point”? How can other nail techs learn to speak on point?

LBG: The short version is, I began getting requests for speaking engagements and that led to the creation of Speaking On Point. With the start of the company, I became a member of the National Speakers Association. Soon after, I accepted invites for motivational speaking opportunities with Kimberly Clark and the National Black Caucus of State Legislators. Along with motivational speaking, Speaking On Point focuses on coaching and consulting, and in-salon education on multiple topics including customer experience and retail for nail technicians and other salon professionals. When nail techs are knowledgeable and experienced in their craft and understand the industry, it gives them the confidence to clearly articulate and serve the needs of the client and know their value.

NAILS: What inspires your topics? How do you decide what to write about?

LBG: I'm inspired by what I read, see, hear, and experience in and out of the industry. I choose to write about whatever inspires me at that moment. Ultimately, I want people to know that they aren't alone in their experiences.

NAILS: What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned in this industry?

LBG: I have two main lessons that I learned: first, it's constantly changing, and you have to be flexible and willing to make changes and push yourself if you want to continue to grow and succeed. Second, never stop learning! Learn from people/organizations in and out of the industry. Business is the same, no matter what you do. The process may be different, but you can learn something that is useful in your business from other resources.

NAILS: What are your favorite blogs to read?

LBG:

NAILS Magazine blogs

My Fitness Pal

Go Social with Marki

NAILS: Where/when are your upcoming classes?

LBG: Upcoming classes will include a complimentary, 90-minute class on June 24th and 25th at the IBS Las Vegas Show. Additionally, I have a 30-day Salon Success Challenge that will launch on June 15. By request, I am available for one-on-one and in-salon education.

NAILS: Any parting words?

LBG:  Always be networking. Always be on a path toward taking your career to the next level, and always find a way to give back.
