Safe Horizon’s #PutTheNailInIt campaign encourages people to paint their ring fingers purple for a powerful purpose: to spread awareness of domestic violence. Celebrities such as Dave Navarro, Kyra Sedgwick, and Alan Cumming have sported a purple nail to draw attention to the issue.

One in four women and one in seven men will experience domestic violence, according to Safe Horizon. The organization provides shelter, legal services, counseling, and other programs to help people escape the cycle of domestic violence. Participants in the campaign are encouraged to donate to Safe Horizon and start talking about the issue.

"A painted nail is an easy and empowering way for anyone — women, men, and even children —  to start a conversation about domestic violence and end the silence that so often allows it to thrive," says Safe Horizon.
