My State Board Practical hand. I will keep it forever!

This was such a big week for me! Not only am I down to four weeks left but, first thing Monday morning, I took my State Board Practical Exam. I was so nervous walking into the room, but it was only because I was afraid my nerves would mess me up.

As I mentioned before I felt well-prepared for this, but I just didn’t want to forget anything. It started at 9 a.m. sharp. The proctor gave a spiel on the state board nail portion and we began.

I was sweating a bit, but before I kenw it, it was over. After I cleaned up, the proctor told me to grab my things and took me out to the hallway. There is where she told me, “Congratulations, you passed your state board practical exam.”

My, oh my, did my heart jump through my chest! It’s such a surreal feeling to see how everything I’ve worked so hard on hasn’t been for nothing. I’m actually heading in the right direction and this is only the beginning!

I tried to go for an ombre here, but it didn't quite work out the way I hoped. Either way, she loved her purple and chrome sculpted set.

After the exam I decided to stick around to makeup hours that I’ve missed. One of my coworkers and dear friend of mine came in for a full set.

She loves purple and shiny stuff so we gave her purple acrylic nails accented by my first attemp at gold chrome ombré. The shape and nails were gorgeous, but I have to be honest about that ombré. Since it was my first attempt, I thought that using a rubber top coat would be smart but I was wrong. The chrome came out so thick and in my opinion, ruined the nail but she was ok with it so I let them go (even though I really wanted to fix them). After her set, she treated me to lunch and by 5 p.m. I was back at school.

As soon as I came back, I got set up for my 5:30 p.m. appointment with one of my favorite cosmo students. She loves when I sculpt her nails. A lot of girls who used to opt for tips, have started choosing sculpting after I've serviced them. I absolutely love sculpting nails. I don’t know why, but it’s just my thing, my bread and butter some would say. This orange nails came out absolutely beautiful. Once I was done I noticed one of my classmates was polishing her nails, but we all know how difficult it can be to polish your dominant hand. So I offered my assistance. We used multiple colors and sugared sn accent nail on each hand with glitter. The set looked fabulous!

On the left, I did a sculpted set. On the right, I polished and sugared my classmates nail after she sculpted them.

Tuesday came around and I felt unstoppable. I passed my state board practical, and I only have three and half weeks left. I’m feeling great.

I checked the appointment list and I had a gel-manicure scheduled with one of my regulars. I love this client! We always have great conversations, she loves her nails because we worked hard to restore them. It was a little sad for me though, because we scheduled our last pedicure appointment. She said I could get creative for our last appointment, which is a lovely phrase to hear. After my client left, I worked on some nail art. I fell in love with how these little nails came out, I was so proud of myself. I would really love to take a painting class though, I feel it would help improve in that area.

I had no appointments Wednesday so I decided to fix two of my nails that had cracked. It was on my right hand so it didn’t surprise me. I didn’t get to take a picture but it definitely looked a lot better. I proceeded to work on some nail art. It came out so cute! It was very simple, but sometimes a little goes a long way. I realized I like to keep my style cute and simple. Right before it was time to leave, another one of my classmates needed help polishing her fresh fill so Jojo came to the rescue. We used her Kiara Sky mood changing polish with silver foil on the ring finger and, voila, they were beautiful.

I got busy practicing nail art, from snakeskin to marble.

Thursday was a relaxing day. Because I took my State Board on Monday, I didn’t have to practice for it in class. As my classmates were practicing my instructor wanted to work on some nail art, so I told her she could do a polish change on my nails. I was so excited because she has done a lot of students nail ar,t but I never had long nails on for her to polish. Now it was my turn to be pampered a little.

It was such a fun and successful week. I can definitely see the light at the end of the tunnel, brighter than ever now, and I am so excited to finish this chapter of my life and to see what the next chapter holds for us. I have three weeks left (12 classes)!

Hold on and stay strong, stay positive... we’re almost done!

Love,

Jojo
